Less Than Perfect (FOWC)

Abandonment from Momma
The fist from Dad
His gifts of childhood
One bruise at a time
Dodging the temper
From an empty bottle
Knowing it would still come
Sooner or later
But he broke free
The tender age of 16
Learned about life
In the back of a bar
And the corner of the street
Worked hard
To pave his way
Living honestly
With kindness
Trying to find some peace
In a less than perfect life

    1. I fell bad liking this comment because it is NOT something to “like”… I am so sorry you went through that. I took my time with my alcoholic ex and memories of my childhood and mixed it with some of the abuse a dear friend endured and thrived in spite of. So it is fiction based in some facts. Thanks so much for commenting.

  1. Saddens me to think how many may truly know this life, but at the same time… it is so heartening to see when someone comes out of it a better person. Wonderful write.
