Seeing Clearly

Looking back

I see the broken dreams

I see the wasted moments

I see where I went wrong

I see where you left

And I know I drove you away

In hindsight there is so much

I would do differently today

But we can’t change the past

So I quietly say goodbye

To what might have been

And watch you walk away

The Time Of Truth

You come to me

Like in a dream

But it is completely real

And history rewrites itself

In a few precious words

The truth comes out

I have always loved you

I never stopped

You turn to me

And concise you simply say

Me too

We kiss all doubt away

As the day’s light fades

And I am home again

In your arms

Mumbles … Heretic

A Bing definition of heretic is “a person holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted.” I don’t really have anything to write about in that regard. I have down-to-earth friends that don’t really go against the grain too often. The closest thing to being at odds is my friend that, for reasons that escape me, voted for Trump. In our joint circle of friends, she is at odds with the opinions of most of us when it comes to him. She still believes he can help us. I am not so convinced and think we are headed so far backwards it is scary. The problem with counting her as a heretic is the fact that she is not alone in supporting him.

Please forgive my poor excuse for writing tonight. My heart hasn’t really been into much of anything lately as I deal with the loss of my Dad. I need to find a little joy somewhere and it just seems very far away now. As I have been working on this post though I did get a text from a dear friend. It makes my heart happy. So here is a little something to add to my mumbles tonight…

Soaring
Old friends come to mind
As I drift through the night
Floating on dreams of yesterday
And wishing on tomorrows
A few encouraging words
And I take flight again
Flying over pain and heartache
To a happiness I have missed
For far too long

To Watch Or Not To Watch

the first five minutes
are always the worst
murders, fires, death and destruction
the weather and sports are ok
but the fluff pieces
are always towards the end
the human interest stories
that give us a little hope
that mankind still has kindness

yeah I think I will watch
the last half of the news
the first half I can’t handle today

Roots

the roots grow strong
in this family tree
service men and women
giving for their country
dedicating life for their communities
to protect and to serve
helping others endlessly
while devoted to God
building on a future
one hammer and nail at a time
yes, the roots are strong
in this family tree
so I’ll do what I can
to make my branch steady
and hold up my side
of this tree of life

Second Time Around

The door to the resort opened and the two of them walked in. This was a much special vacation for the two of them. The front lobby was spacious and decorated in a warm welcoming wood grain. A fireplace was burning across the room from the front desk. A clerk behind it smiled at the couple and said, “Welcome to Red Wood Resort. May I help you?”

The man approached the desk and said, “We have reservations under Mathis for 2 nights.”

The clerk checked the couple in and they walked hand in hand down the hall to their room. Stepping inside they found a bottle of champagne waiting chilled for them on the table next to a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The woman approached the table and read the card attached to the flowers. “They are from Ryan. ‘To the perfect couple on a second honeymoon.’ He is so sweet.”

“I still think he has a thing for you.”

“Well I only have a thing for YOU.” She walked across the room and gave him a slow and wanting kiss.

“Save some of that for later. Right now I think we have our massage appointment to get ready for.”

“Oh I will save plenty of it for you… I am so glad we could arrange this. I love you sir!”

“I love you too ma’am!”

growing anxiety

i have to be strong
hide my feelings
i have to appear normal
act like i’m fine

i am determined to blend in
no tears that stand out
no flashy clothes
no attention brought to me

i have to push away
my depression and anxiety
i have to say goodbye
with the whole town watching
