Slow-Motion Chaos

I swallow hard

And steady myself

But the room still

Seems to spin

I find the nearest seat

Take a deep breath

My legs and hands

Begin to shake

Sounds become muffled

And I see only with

A foggy tunnel vision

My pulse is racing

I feel on the verge

Of tears and death

Ready to welcome

Either one first

A million thoughts

And a completely blank slate

Battle for control

Of my troubled mind

I know it won’t last

But the minutes drag on

Like a slow-motion video…

Breath by breath

I slowly return to normal

Embarrassed beyond words

Sure the whole world knows

I just had a panic attack
