She could only see his profile but there was something familiar about him. She looked far too long at him and as if he sensed her staring, he turned to look at her. She gasped in shock when she saw him head on. It was a friend from her past. One who had helped her through a very difficult time, when she separated from her husband and filed for divorce.
A sudden look of recognition showed on his face and she knew he remembered her. She had always wondered what had happened to him Now was her chance to reconnect with him. They had once been so close she thought of him as a baby brother.
She started walking towards him trying to not show how excited she was to see him again… she didn’t want to scare him off. She got close enough to extend a hand and he shook it. “Long time no see Sara.”
“A long time indeed. I have missed you. What are you up to these days?”
He began to fill her in on his life and she felt so at home next to him. She wondered if he would ever realize how much his friendship had helped her back then. An open ear to talk to and a hand to hold onto for a little strength.
They sat at their table in the bar and talked for over an hour when he said he had to leave.
“Oh, Dave it has been so good to talk to you. Please let’s not make it another 2 years before we talk again. She stood up with him and gave him a long embrace.
He pulled out of the hug and told her, “Call me, we should do dinner sometime.”
“I would love that.”
She sighed as he walked out the door and she hoped it would not be the last she saw of him.
