Too Many Don’t End This Way

She was sick.  She had let her guard down and just ran into the store for a gallon of milk.  And now she was one of the statistics on the news every night. An infected person with Covid19.  She wanted to hit herself for the stupidity of going without a mask that one day for 10 minutes.  But now she sat and shivered with fever and drew short shallow breaths.

She however was not giving up or giving in.  She had followed all of the CDC guidelines and was still cleaning the house as best she could, being short of breath (and the chemical smell from the cleaners was not helping either).  She had not gone to the doctor but called the covid hotline and was a presumptive case.  She was drinking lots of fluids and trying to rest.  She faced this with all the fortitude she had left.

Three weeks later she was finally taken off the ventilator and it looked like she would be able to return home some day soon.
