Looking For A Vice

Jennifer was ready for the big announcement.  Her boss was promoting someone to move up into the vice president’s spot as the current one was retiring.  She had given 30 years to the company joining right after college and had moved up nicely through the years.  She knew there were only a handful of people that could move up and she had seniority over each of them.

Steve stepped out of his office and said, “Can I have your attention everybody?  A decision has been made for the new vice president.  First of all, I want to thank Hank for his many years in this position.  He implemented a lot of positive things for this company.  Thank you, Hank.  I have a little gift for you.”

Hank came towards Steve and they shook hands then Steve gave him a small box.  Hank opened it finding a gold Rolex watch.  He seemed very surprised and gave a small speech then stepped back towards his office.

Steve said, “This decision on Hank’s replacement has not been an easy one.  We took into consideration experience, education and devotion to the company.  I would like to introduce you all to the next vice president, Robert Caldwell.  The office gave a nice round of applause for Robert and Jennifer’s mind started racing.

As soon as the meeting was over, and all the congratulations and good lucks were passed around Jennifer sat down at her desk.  She turned to her computer and did a little typing and then pressed print.  She stood up and went to the printer, picked up the piece of paper and went to Steve’s office.

He started to say something first and she just said, “No, read this Steve.” She handed him her sheet of paper.  After the letter head there was one sentence typed.  “I resign.”  Her signature followed and she turned on her heels, grabbed the few things at her desk that were personal, and she walked right out the doors.
