Mrs. Miller’s Porch

Anna went towards her car and was approached by her neighbor Ted.  “Have you seen Mrs. Miller lately?  I normally see her sweeping her porch after it snows, and she hasn’t been out since the snow stopped yesterday.  She didn’t go on a trip that you know of?”

“No, not that I have heard of.  Do you think she’s ok?”

“I don’t know, I may call and have a welfare check done on her.  It is just not like her to leave snow on the porch more than an hour or two.”

“Well, I have a doctor’s appointment now, so let me know what you find out.  I hate to think something has happened to her.”  Anna got into her car and drove off.

Returning home, Anna saw Mrs. Miller’s porch was clear of snow.  She got out and walked towards Ted’s front door.  He opened the door before she got there.  “Anna, it is not good news.  Mrs. Miller had fallen last night and broke her hip.  She just couldn’t get to the phone.  They took her to the hospital and expect her to be ok after her hip is set.”

“The poor woman, on the floor so long in pain.  I am glad you called to check Ted.  You are a great neighbor.”
