Battle lines are drawn
And you are in an offensive stance
While I cower in defense
You hurl your attacks my way
And I plead with you to stop
Then one makes contact
Instead of crying in pain
I scream out in unhinged anger
How dare you!
Only thinking of yourself
Never considering my side
At first I think I should retreat
Then I decide it’s not my place to back down
I come back on the offensive
Hurling all I have in the moment
You seem shocked and stop
In the silence it seems we are in a cease fire
At least for the end of this day
You go off your way
And I go mine

An uneasy retreat!
