The Hunt Continues

He boots up his laptop and peruses his email.  Just like the day before, nothing new except ads. He really was hoping to hear back from one of the four jobs he had applied for this week.  He knew he was probably grasping at straws to think he could make close to his former wage, but he was starting off aiming a little high and then will move his expectations down.  But it was really discouraging that he didn’t even get a “We’re sorry, but the position has been filled.”  So, it was back to the online job search again.

Chance Meeting

I saw you in a crowded room

You took my breath away

I knew there was something special

I had to be a part of your life

I needed your love

A plethora of hugs

An excess of kisses

And an overabundance of your time

So I made a move

And asked you out

Now life is anything but boring

We laugh

We live

We love

And we will forever

Until death do us part

Nemesis

Writer’s nemesis is writer’s block. Singer’s it’s laryngitis. An athlete’s is any injury. Right now my biggest nemesis is calories and fat. Do you have a nemesis?

“The measure of a superhero is always his nemesis.” – David Lyons

“My nemesis – my downfall, if you will – was relationships, and trying to fullfill them.” – Jennifer O’Neil

“Our nemesis is time, against which we have a single ally, memory, and even it betrays us.” – Sam Tanenhaus

“Restlessness is my nemesis it’s hard to just chill and sit still.” – Mos Def

Remembering Him

The first sign of love

I felt my heart flutter

You lifted my mood

I was happy again

We fit together so well

Your positive spirit

To boost my troubled soul

I began to feel hope

I began to feel happiness

I began to feel love

All emotions I had been without

You taught me to have faith again

In myself and in a world

Where good things were possible

I will never forget you

You were my life saver

You were my friend

You were my love

Dream Away the Grey

I look outside at the

Grey skies

Brown grass

And bare trees

Closing my eyes I dream of

Green grass

Lush trees

And a myriad of flowers blooming

Opening my eyes I spot

A tree with buds

The tips of a tulip

And the sun starting to shine

Spring is coming

It is not just a dream

Talk To Me

Photo by Maria Orlova on Pexels.com

It is not solitary confinement

It might as well be

You sit across the room

Lost in the TV and your phone

I am already house bound

Due to the pandemic at hand

But loneliness is the worst

When there is someone else with you

It is not all isolation though

There are good days too

Where the phone is on the table

And I turn on the radio

I just wish there was a way

To reach you every day

There Has To Be A Way

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

I loved him

I thought he felt the same

We had our differences

But there was always a way

A way to reach each other

And hang onto the last vestiges of our love

But with a word or two

He killed what was left

With his careless and callous ways

Striking me down to a mess of emotions

Crying for what once was

And praying it was only a nightmare

Crank Up the Fans

Photo by murat esibatir on Pexels.com

The TV droned on about affordable healthcare.  I sat in my chair waving off a fly.  The air was fueled by a sticky hot August day and I was waiting for the repairman to come fix my air conditioner.  The phone rang and I answered, “Hello?”

“Hello, is this Mrs. Johnson?”

“This is.”

“This is Nate from Keltner Heating and Cooling.  I am going to have to reschedule for tomorrow.  Unfortunately, my van was involved in an accident so all my afternoon appointments will be rescheduled to tomorrow afternoon if that works for you?”

“On my, are you alright?”

“Yes, I am fine.  The other driver had a pretty bad cut from broken glass, but nothing more serious.  Thanks for asking.”

“Yes, tomorrow afternoon will work fine.  Will it be at the same time?”

“Yes ma’am, it will be.  Thank you for understanding.”

“You’re welcome.  I will see you tomorrow then.”

I hung up the phone and breathed a heavy sigh.  It was going to be hard to sleep tonight, but the weatherman promised rain.  I wanted it to be a rain that cooled it down a little or at least knocked some of the humidity out of the air.  I could only hope.
