His eyes have lost their shine
His look is dull and lifeless
Giving others concern
They worry he has given up
Resigned to his fate
Time is growing shorter
His years gone by too fast
His life once gave him great joy
Now his days are dreary
The aging need our understanding
Not misguided explanations
Of how retirement should be
So he shuffles down the hallway
No longer quick and spry
And looks into the mirror to see
The embers of his dreams
Written for Fandango’s One Word Challenge – dull
Such a poignant reminder Leigha. You’re so right that the elderly need our thoughtful kindness and understanding.
Thank you Sadje!
Always my pleasure
And they call them the golden years.
