A to Z Challenge – Z is for Zig Ziglar

“A great attitude becomes a great mood, which becomes a great day, which becomes a great year, which becomes a great life.”

Zig Ziglar

There is something to be said about a good attitude, a positive outlook, a peaceful state of mind… all can be influential on the rest of your days and the days of all those around you. So if you want to be in a good environment you have to produce a good environment yourself. Happiness can be contagious, pass it on!

A to Z Challenge – Y is for YoYo

“I think anybody who goes away finds you appreciate home more when you return.”

YoYo Ma

This is so true… maybe a hint of absence makes the heart goes fonder. It is also related to just being homesick when you are away from home. From small to large, there are so many things that a person can miss about home. From a special coffee cup to start the day out, to the feeling of sleeping in your own bed. After all, home is where the heart is, and absence makes the heart grow fonder.

A to Z Challenge – X is for Xenophon

“Excess of grief for the dead is madness; for it is an injury to the living, and the dead know it not.”

Xenophon

I like the basic idea of this quote… it does only affect the living when we grieve. I never knew how hard funerals were in my youth but find more and more people I know are passing on. The best “memorial” was for my mom because she HATED funerals and said she would find a way to haunt us all if we did not have a party after she died. So we had music, alcohol and family and friends. We held a raffle to give away some of the afghans she had crocheted. It was a party. I still grieved her, but it was more of a celebration of all she had done.

“To have great poets, there must be great audiences.”

Walt Whitman

I try to be at least a good poet, thankfully I already have a great audience here! Thanks for all your likes and comments when the muse strikes me!

A to Z Challenge – V is for Vonnegut

“The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal.”

Kurt Vonnegut

Looking under the letter V for today’s quote I was grabbed by this one by Vonnegut. At first I was appalled that it would take so long, but then I realized this is less than 60 years and we have SO FAR to go still. I am sure this was maybe the start of a story or a chapter in a book meant to grab the reader. But honestly, do you think we can really ALL be equal in 59 years? I wish we could be tomorrow, but realistically it is going to take a long time still I think. Sad really.

“Depth of friendship does not depend on length of acquaintance.”

Rabindranath Tagor

I have had instant connections with some friends and known others for years and still not feel very connected with them. This quote is spot on! (even thought it is a day late… 🙄)

“Progress might have been alright once, but it has gone on too long.”

Ogden Nash

I discovered this quote was a part of a poem Odgen wrote in 1962. I can’t image that he knew how appropriate it would be sixty years later in regards to what progress has done to the health of our planet. It sure seems it has gone on far too long with the levels of pollution from industries and the products they created. Just plastics alone weigh the earth down with so much pollution that will not revert to any natural form years from now, only pile up more. That is why I chose this quote.

A to Z Challenge – N is for Nietzsche

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

I choose this quote on a special day. Today, April 16, is World Semicolon Day. A semicolon is used when a writer takes a pause but the story goes on. It represents the troubles we have in life and we can take a pause but we are not done; our life goes on for another day. My life has been touched by suicide and this is a day I celebrate every April 16th. One of these years I am going to get my semicolon tattoo. Until then I pause to remember those without the “whys” who have stopped their stories. Those who still struggle daily. Those who have lost their way and feel trapped. Today I remember that their is a way out and asking for help is a difficult (but oh, so strong) thing a person can do. Life will go on; my story is not over yet.

For those in need of someone to talk to in the US please call 800-273-8255 for the suicide prevention help line

“A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself.”

I have a few friends that I can be myself with… they are precious to me. A friendship like that is hard to find so hang on to it with all your heart.

A to Z Challenge – L is for Lincoln

“No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.”

Abraham Lincoln

Lies are a no win situation. Something will always bring to light the truth and quite often it is at the hands of the liar themselves by making a “mistake” in their story. Being truthful is sometimes hard and may get you into trouble but a lie will always be worse in the long run. Our 16th president was very wise.
