The people started to gather at the door. She knew it would be a long day with so many shoppers waiting at the doors. The quarantine was to go into effect at midnight tonight so everyone wanted to shop while they could. There was a large sign outside that stated no more than two of one item for any customer, they also had smaller versions on each door and by the high-volume items – paper goods, cleaners, canned food and batteries. The doors opened and the mass moved forward. This was worse than Christmas shopping she thought.
For the most part the morning went well. As the day moved on and supplies dwindled down on the shelves, tempers flared. She heard a man yell “Screw you!” She turned and saw a man standing with one of the assistant managers. It was obvious there were high tensions on both sides of the conversation. As the argument went on the volume got louder and the man became belligerent. He swore and took a swing at the manager who had joined in to try to calm the situation. He ducked just in time. It was then the police came into the building.
In no time the offensive customer was escorted out of the building and she continued checking out customers until the store closed at four o’clock.
