Happy and Grateful – Days 342 & 343

One of my favorite months is upon us. I love the wonder of the holidays.  How it can light up young and old alike.  The weather is (usually) starting to change the world white and frosty.  And the promise of a new year is just around the corner.  This is the final month of my attempt to find the things that make me happy and grateful every day for a year… I have mixed emotions that it will be ending.  Please join me these last few days and post your happiness and gratitude in the comments or on your own blog.  There is always some good in the day no matter how small.

I have a feeling December is not going to go very smooth with this posting everyday stuff.  Once again the fatigue got me last night and I play catch up today.  I have a lot of reading to catch up on and will get to it all, just not tonight.

So Friday was not one of my better days.  After two years of being down and away from a lot of everyday cares… I finally faced the music and went to the dentist.  I had been so good with my tooth care up until this round of depression… I did not get an all clear check up and am terrified at how much of a bill I am going to mount up.  I know insurance will get some of it but not all.  I am still grateful that I was able to return to this dentist and start over with my dental care.  He is a great dentist who explains things well before he does anything.  So much better than my old dentist that cracked my tooth to the root with no Novocaine – OUCH!

I did some work on my Christmas cards, they are really coming together and I am thrilled with the way they are turning out.  I am close to halfway through with them.  I am happy to get some of them done.  It was good to get ink and glue on my hands as always.

Today I started work on some of my Christmas letters… got three of them done.  I am grateful that I am getting a fairly early start on my cards so maybe this year I am not out on Christmas Eve mailing the last of them.  I am not known for being on time… LOL.

Since I was writing Christmas letters I figured it was time to start listening to Christmas music.  I love Christmas music!  I have not dug up my CDs yet but I was listening to the local cable stations Sounds of the Season channel.  Some classics and new hits alike.  I have not yet heard my favorite though – the duet of Bing Crosby and David Bowie doing The Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth.  I love that one… let me pull up the video to share so you can all hear it.  I am always happy to listen to good music.  Do you have a favorite Christmas or holiday song you try to hear every year?

I need to stop babbling and get to reading a few posts before my meds put me out for the night.  Take time to find your happiness and feel your gratitude… especially at this busy time of year.  Have a wonderful night/day!

12 Days of Christmas – Music

I love music so it stands to reason that Christmas music is a big part of my holiday.  When decorations go up, making cookies and candies, making Christmas cards, or just because … I love to listen to a wide variety of Christmas music.  As you may be able to tell from the picture I also like a few of the novelty variety songs (although I steer far away from Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer… too over played in my opinion).

It is not a complete Christmas with out a few favorites.  I have to hear the duet by Bing Crosby and David Bowie of “The Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth” every year at least once.  The Dr Demento CD has to be played in its entirety.  “Silver Bells” was my Mom’s favorite carol and I listen to it so she is still “here” at Christmas time with me.

If have extra money after gift shopping and buying food for Christmas dinner I try to find one new Christmas themed CD.  I listen to a Pandora Christmas station, have the TV on the seasonal music station to catch a variety of old and new hits.  And there is a local radio station that goes to 24 hour Christmas music.

I am currently listening to my cable station sounds of the season channel… Louis Armstrong’s “Zat You Santa Claus” and I have to smile. Music can bring forth so many emotions and memories it is hard to imagine any time of year without it. Do you have any favorite carols or performers you like to listen to at this time of year?
