Torch Song

Let the music draw us in

As we begin to sway as one

Pressed against each other

Feeling the heat rise

Wanting so much more

Than a simple dance can give

There is passion in the air tonight

And we know just how to capture it

The song’s end is only the beginning

As we succumb to the fire within

Our First Dance

The bass is so strong

You feel it in your stomach

Boom, boom, boom

The guitar rings out

A melody so sweet

Wah, wah, wah

The words like a poem

Echo through your head

“…free my soul…”

And you take me in your arms

My heart syncs with yours

Beat, beat, beat

A Moment Of Grace

She was awkward

Could trip up the stairs

Always dropped things

Everyone just knew it

She was the clumsy one

Then she found her love –

She began a class

She practiced all the time

And in no time

Had a bit of grace to her

The night of her first performance

She was so nervous

She was shaking and afraid

But when the time came

She was a vision on stage

Every leap and twirl a beautiful moment

She still trips up the stairs

And can drop a million things a day

But give her some music and floor space

And she is ungainly no more

Words That Dance

Bob Fosse – “Choreography is writing on your feet.”

Alvin Ailey – “No matter what you write or choreography, you feel it is not enough”

Twyla Tharp – “I see dance as glue for a community.”

Martha Graham – “Dance is the hidden language of the soul of the body.”

Mikhail Baryshnikov – “I kind of lost interest in the classical dance. I was very much interested in the modern choreography.”

Isadora Duncan – “The dancers body is simply the luminous manifestation of the soul.”

In Perfect Sync

Like poetry in motion

They glide across the floor

Making the dance look like

Two people floating on air

Top hat and tails

And a beautiful ball gown

They are in classic style

I can only ever dream of

The talent that they had

No one can compare

Fred and Ginger will always be

The best

No Matter What Song

With a twist of the dial

The station comes in

And I begin to sway

Music swirls around me

As I turn up the radio

Dancing through my head

It erases my troubles

So I can find peace within

In spite of my pain today

Written for Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (FOWC) – twist

Slow Dance

I don’t want to twist and shout

Or do the hustle

No tango or a waltz either

All I want is to sway in your arms

Letting our bodies move to the music

Slow and easy

Your breath on my neck

My head rested on your chest

Feeling it rise and fall

This is where I feel most at home

With you in the moment

The world melting away

As we dance in the moonlight

Love Notes

The instrumental music swells
Notes surging through my veins
The rhythm beats with my heart
As the melody triggers memories…

Days long past
When we would dance
Your arms around my waist
Tender moments locked inside
Each and every chord
Laughter and happiness
As you’d twirl me across the floor
My hand in yours
True love connecting us
In a symphony of joy
