Enough

Is what we are given

All that we need

Or is there a fire inside

That can never be quenched

Do we always want more

Or things we just can’t reach

Will we ever be satisfied

Or is there always a desire

That drives us to want

What is beyond our means

Enough

As we sit in silence

I wonder if you care

There are times

I feel I am not enough

Not enough friend for you

Not enough woman for you

Not enough love for you

I feel that I am only

An adequate stand in

Holding this space open

Until you can find

Your real future

Your true love

Your soulmate

Until you find her

And start your life with her

I will wonder deep inside

Why I can’t be enough

Not enough now

Not enough later

Not enough ever

Enough

Fire in my heart
Desire in my body
Thoughts only of you
But it will never be
You see me only
As a friend
Someone to talk to
Not a body worth touching
Someone to laugh with
Not a heart to beat with
But in my eyes
We are bound by more
We know each other so well
We are souls entwined
In a closeness that is
A once in a lifetime union
If only I could be enough for you
