A Reason Why

He sat there

Showing no emotion

As stoic as usual

Unable to read him

She drew a deep breath

Time and time again

He would go through this

Lost in his own world

While she was left alone

To figure out what to say

Why they couldn’t go this time

Why he had once again

Spoiled their plans

By drinking himself

Into a state

So she would draw on

Her creative imagination

And somehow she would

Try to salvage a relationship

From the sabotage of whiskey

Another family gathering

Not gone to

Excuse me sir

I just didn’t know

That you would

Break your promises.

Excuse me sir

I had no idea

That all along

You were toying with me.

Excuse me sir

For crying a river

The feelings I felt

Were actually real.

Excuse me sir

For having trouble

Fogeting the words

You once said to me.

Excuse me sir

For never being able

To see you again

In the same light

… the light of love has faded.
