Happy and Grateful – Day 97

We have reached the month of April and I am still on course to post daily with my happiness and gratitude I have found.  Please join in if you feel like doing this too by sharing in the comments or on your own blog.  There is so much to be happy and grateful for.

Today was another day of sunshine and the windows open.  It was so nice to hear the birds chirping until the kids pouring out onto the playground drowned out their songs.  It really was the perfect day for a walk… if only my back had not been bothering me.

I did see a friend today though and that made me happy.  It was through a video message, but that is better than nothing.  My friends mean the world to me and to be able to keep in touch with them in some manner is wonderful and I am grateful for that.

Steve, Don’t Leave

“Later Fred.”

Later Steve.”

The two exchanged words

As they walked out the door

If only Fred had known

Steve’s later would never come

In the blink of an eye he was gone

At the age of 45 he died

We never know how long we have

We only have so many moments

So treasure the times together

And be a friend every day.

I found out a friend of mine just lost her best friend to cancer.  It for some reason reminded me of someone I met just a couple of times but was saddened to hear he died suddenly at the age of 45.  He had so much life in front of him and it was gone in the blink of an eye.  I can’t really say we were friends, but I certainly admired him and still miss his presence in this world.  My point tonight is treat each moment special as you never know when it may be your last.  (((HUGS)))

Happy and Grateful – Day 90

As March comes to an end I continue with my goal to find happiness and gratitude every day.  There is at least some small thing that can bring a smile and give you a moment to be grateful for.  Please join me in looking for the good moments of the day … it would be great if you would share them in the comments or on your own blog.  Be aware of the little wonders of the day!

Today was a good day… I got the chance to see a friend of mine for a lunch date.  Originally there was going to be three of us but our other friend got sick and had to cancel.  But the two of us had a nice little lunch at Village Inn and talked for a couple of hours.  It is always good to connect with friends… it makes me happy!

As for the grateful part of the day… I have to turn to you, my followers.  I hit the 200 mark today and am humbled that you want to keep up with what I do.  I will try to do my best to make your time worth while.  THANK YOU to each and every one of you!  (((HUGS)))

Happy and Grateful – Day 70

As March begins I continue with my goal to find happiness and gratitude every day.  There is at least some small thing that can bring a smile and give you a moment to be grateful for.  Please join me in looking for the good moments of the day … it would be great if you would share them in the comments or on your own blog.  Be aware of the little wonders of the day!

Sorry, I am a few hours late with this.  It was a really high fatigue day.  Took a couple of unplanned naps and fell asleep with my laptop open, kicked back in my recliner.  I guess it all comes out the same.  Hope you’ll forgive me!

The day was spent watching more of the basketball playoffs (and Iowa State won the Big 12 tournament – Yea!!!), reading a little and trying to catch up on my email and posts here.  The snow that happened over night melted away to get ready for the next batch coming through Sunday night.  It was a very laid back day.

The high point of the day would be a call from a friend of mine.  Just checking in to see how I was doing.  It is always good to know someone is thinking of you from time to time.  It made me happy to hear from them. I am grateful for all my friends who understand me and care.  Life would be pretty dull without them.  I cherish every one of them.  I hope you are grateful for your friends and have many that care for you as you care for them.

Happy and Grateful – Day 41

This is February and I am well on my way to attaining a goal I set for myself.  I am trying to post every day with happiness and gratitude that I have encountered that day.  There is always something no matter how small it may seem that we can be grateful for and even just a shared smile can make you happy if only for a moment.  Please try to find those moments for yourself too…  if you’re up to it I would love if you would share them too in the comments or your own blog.  Being aware can really turn a day around!

Gathering with old friends is wonderful!  Today I spent a couple of hours visiting with two friends I used to work with.  We try to get together every month or two.  Just to stay up to date with each other.  Talk about what we are doing now, how the families are and what we are looking forward to.

One of my friends is dealing with her mother’s failing health and having only one of her two brothers willing to help care for her.  I feel for her as my sister can only do so much to help our dad in his health and aging battles.  I guess some people are just not cut out as care givers.  That being said it still doesn’t end the frustration of one being closer and being unable to do anything to help.

Today I am both grateful for time with my friends and the fact that my sister does help out some with our dad.  I was happy to spend the time with them and have a laugh or two.  It always cheers me up to see them.  And they gave me my daily recommended hug count for the day!  🙂

Happy and Grateful – Day 23

I have undertaken a challenge this year.  I am trying to find the good in every day by writing about happiness and gratitude that I feel.  No matter how small there is always something to bring a smile or make you grateful, if just for a moment.  Follow along with me as I dig deep as necessary and find the peace of the day.  Join in if you are feeling happy and grateful too – in the comments or on your own blog.  Let’s find some fun!

My daughter has been very busy.  She is filling in at her job as a temporary manager due to a maternity leave the manager took.  She has worked a lot of extra hours and has not had time to visit.  Today we managed to find the time to catch a late lunch/early dinner together.  It was so good to see her.

We had some good food, good conversation and each laughed… that was definitely needed by both of us.  She is always a bright spot in my day.  I think we have a pretty good relationship that goes beyond mother daughter to friendship.  I was always really close with my mom and wanted my daughter to have the same.  Seeing my daughter today made me very happy.  And I am grateful to have her as both a daughter and a friend.

Happy and Grateful – Day 6

I have undertaken a challenge this year.  I am trying to find the good in every day by writing about happiness and gratitude that I feel.  No matter how small there is always something to bring a smile or make you grateful, if just for a moment.  Follow along with me as I dig deep as necessary and find the peace of the day.  Join in if you are feeling happy and grateful too – in the comments or on your own blog.  Let’s find some fun!

I must apologize for taking almost a full day to write this.. I knew what I was going to write half-way through the day, but laundry, pain and fatigue kept me from writing much.  But I am here now and yesterday was a wonderful day… at least a couple of hours of it was.  I met two wonderful women I worked with for lunch and we sat and talked for about 2 1/2 hours.  It is always good to see them.  One of them is nearing the stage in her life she may have to move a couple of hours away to take care of her ailing mother.  Right now her brothers are helping out some but eventually she will need more around the clock care.  It will be hard to see her move but at least she will be a days drive away to still visit when able.

I am grateful I still have friends from work I can communicate with and still have a small bit of a “social life” to enjoy.  It was a very happy few hours of talk and laughter.  I need more days like that.  Unfortunately I can’t afford them very often and they both still work so coordinating schedules is sometimes a challenge.  But it made this Friday a good day!

Day 97 – 100 Days of Happiness

I had dinner tonight with two dear friends.  One was a big help to me when I was going through my cancer treatments and the other has been a friend for years from work as well.  It had been far too long since we had gotten together to talk so dinner stretched out more than 3 hours!  We had to catch up on how our families were doing… and let’s just say it has been a bad year.  We decided tonight that 2017 has to be better… murder (of a family pet), suicide attempts, health crisis, alcoholism, etc.  We decided we should write a soap opera based on our lives as things have been so rough it is hard to believe.

But we got out laughter and tears.  Leaned on each other a little and exchanged wishes for a great Christmas and a MUCH better New Year.  We promised to get together more often and stay in touch.  It was a wonderful night with good food and great friends.  …now bring on that better New Year!

Day 88 – 100 Days of Happiness

I almost overslept and missed it… oops!  I have mentioned before I am not much of a morning person.  I woke up when my boyfriend got up this morning to go to work, but I fell back asleep.  I woke up at about 10am and found a message on my phone.  The two friends I was going to meet for lunch at noon wanted to get together earlier if possible because of the snow coming in.  I got ready in less that an hour and slid through the streets to get there in time.  I was only about 15 min late… a norm for me.  LOL

But it was so nice once I got there.  I worked with both of these ladies for many years and don’t get to see them often enough.  One of them was treating all of us to lunch for Christmas.  She is such a sweetie … they both are.  I would be lost without friends to unwind with on occasion.  We talked, laughed, ate too much and drank way too much coffee but it was still fun.  And the bonus… the snow had stopped by the time we were finally done catching up!

Day 83 – 100 Days of Happiness

I have sat here watching the cursor blink off and on for far too long with no clear direction in mind.  There are a lot of little moments of happiness but not any one thing that stands out better than the rest.

  • I took my car to the repair shop to get my door replaced… got a nice little Camry to drive until it is fixed.
  • The snow that fell yesterday all melted away today.
  • I got a book in on hold at the library I have been looking forward to reading
  • I made it to an Al-anon meeting and saw some people I haven’t seen for a while
  • I got a text from a friend I hadn’t heard from in a while
  • Finally made plans with my daughter to get together for lunch this week

All good things, but not one that stands out.  I could even add the adorable smile from a cute little girl at the library who was waiting with her mom when I walked in.  Happiness some days is all around us in small but wonderful doses.
