He was hungry,
He always seemed hungry.
But what was he to do?
His job was minimum wage,
He had rent and a car payment.
What was left for food?
So he’d plan his meals
To be no more than $5 apiece.
He walked when he could
And never went out.
Some might call him a recluse.
But he was only frugal
With his money and time,
Waiting for the day
His big break would come.
When his book would appear
In book shop windows.
