Living-It-Up Will

Carolynn grabbed the mail out of the mailbox and closed it back up.  Flipping through what was there she saw a letter that caught her eye.  She went into her apartment and slipped off her shoes.  Threw all but the letter down on the table and sat on the couch to read it.

It was from her Grandma Sheryl and she usually just wrote on birthdays and holidays, this was a bit odd to receive it today.  She unfolded a letter and a piece of paper fell out.  Bending over she picked it up seeing it was a check for $5000.  She audibly gasped.  Instantly going back to the letter she read why.

I am sending you this check so you can enjoy my inheritance while I am still here and can see how happy it makes you.  I have discussed this with your father and you and your sister both will receive this check.  NO BILLS paid with it… only fun things – a vacation, some new furniture, a year of meals out, that new camera you have been wanting, video games.  I am sure you can find something fun to do with it.  I just ask in return that you share your joy with me!

Carolynn was shocked.  Just then her phone rang.  “Hello?  Yeah, I got mine today too.  I am just stunned.  It is a pretty cool idea though sis.”

Word Play

Pete and Polly purchased seats

For the public pantomime play

People pause to pay the playwright

Pleased with the performance

Pete and Polly pop into Penelope’s

Paul was pulling tasty taffy

Trying to taunt twins

Trey was taken with Teresa

Twiddling her toes

And Terry turned twice around

Teaching Tina to twist

No Idea

(Sorry this one is a bit weird as it was 2am and I was needing to sleep LOL!)

I’ve got a notion
You caused a commotion
Down by the ocean
When you put on your lotion
I’ve got a feeling
You sent boys reeling
When you were kneeling
And praying for healing
I’ve got a hunch
Your special lunch
Made the boys munch
And eat a bunch
I’ve got an idea
Nothing rhymes with idea
Unless your idea
Is to shop at ikea

Mumbles … Autographs

Today’s word prompt is wise. It takes me back to my childhood. When I was in 5th or 6th grade it was popular to have autograph books. Living in the middle of Iowa however meant not many famous signatures. So like a high school yearbook I had my friends, family and teachers sign it.

I ended up with a German language entry from my grandfather, a joke from my gym teacher, a request to speak up (I told you I was quiet and would mumble as a kid) from a friend, just to name a few. The one that stood out and I recall to this day was a word “puzzle” from a student teacher we had at the time.

Any ideas what she was saying? She wouldn’t answer what it was at first, said I needed to study it and try to figure it out. I tried. I tried again. I asked family members for help. You must remember this was before the days of texting and LOL, ILY, and BRB; so one letter abbreviations were still a few years away. I am going to challenge you to try to figure it out. I will eventually give you an answer as she finally did for me. Give me your guesses and have a little fun with this.

I did eventually move to an autograph book that had some famous people sign. I took it with me to Nashville in high school and got a few singers to sign it. It was great fun getting those signatures! We were there for Fan Fair (where artists gathered at the fairgrounds to meet with fans, promote new albums and perform) and I took advantage of the signature chances. Did you ever gather autographs? What is one signature you would love to have?

On a side note, I am back home as Dad’s shoulder has improved. So I am slowly but surely getting to posts. I have this pesky thing called sleep that keeps interfering with my night time writing… I guess I really wore myself out this week. So I am trying to tackle a lot of WordPress this afternoon… wish me luck! Have a wonderful day/night!

What am I most grateful for? List 10 things.
– 1) a home 2) my daughter 3) my family in general 4) food in the cupboards 5) my doctors who help keep me on track 6) music, it keeps me company 7) my friends, I may not hear from them as often as I like but they are the “family” I chose 8) my blog, it helps me clear my head and exercise my brain (and I get to communicate with all you great people!)

When did I experience joy this week?
– This morning sharing the parade and some breakfast pizza with my family on the parade route.

List a small victory/success?
– My blog is still growing and gathering views and followers, I never thought people would want to read my words.

– This is a hard one for me, I struggle with self worth.  I would say my creativity.

Who means the world to me & why?
– My daughter, she has grown into a responsible, kind, motivated, amazing, young woman in spite of me as a mom.  She is independent and strong and inspires me.

If I could share one message with the world, what would it be?
– People deserve a second chance.

What advice would I give to my younger self?
– Be careful who you trust.

Where would I like to travel in the next 5 years?
– Minnesota (Mall of America), Omaha (family there) and Montana (best friend)

What can I do to take better care of myself?
– Eat better food and smaller portions and exercise more when I can

– When I got a divorce and got my first place “on my own.”

At the end of my life, what do I want my legacy to be?

– My daughter is my biggest legacy… otherwise I would like to put forth something in my writing that touches or inspires at least one other person.

Now to tag others… I struggle some with rules.  I tag EVERYONE to do this informative blog.  No really, if you want to do this PLEASE do and share your link with me so I can see your answers.  Have some fun and share a little!
