Pulling for the Future

Photo by Jonathan Petersson on Pexels.com

What’s behind the door is a wonder

Do we dare tempt fate and take a peek

Do we sit back and worry it will open on its own

Do we refuse to leave our comfort zone and move forward

What is life without a little challenge

How do we grow

How do we learn

How do we gain understanding

The only way to know is by taking that risk

See what is ahead

See what possibilities exist

See what we can become

… just grab the handle and pull

Shared Confessions

Photo by Polina Tankilevitch on Pexels.com

Confess your dreams to me

Do you want to flee

Escape this madness with me

And live in fantasy free

Confess your truths to me

Do you need the key

To set your sins free

And a clear future see

Confess your love to me

Do you want to be free

Where you only feel glee

In a world of just we

Confess your hopes to me

Confess your past to me

Confess your feelings to me

Confess you need me

… as much as I need you

A to Z Challenge – T is for Thurber

“Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.”

James Thurber

I saw a post once that said dwelling in the past was depression and always looking ahead was anxiety but enjoying the moment brought peace. Having both I can see the correlation. Take the time to be in the now and find all the good it has to give.

Solitary Confinement

Since you died

I have been condemned

To be alone

No one can match

What we had together

We had our troubles

But through all of it

I only wanted

Your happiness

And when your demons

Took control of you

I fought so hard

To release you

From their grip

But I failed

And now I look

For a reprieve

From my sentence

And hope for mercy

A moment of friendship

A glimpse of potential love

Someone who will

Stand beside me

And make me feel

Whole again

At Home

Photo by Hannah Stevens on Pexels.com

Gazing into your brown eyes

I see my future

Lost in the warmth of your smile

I see happiness for us

Held in the embrace of your arms

I feel safe and at home

Every time I am near you

I am lost in a sea of emotions

A visceral feeling so deep is my love

I feel complete when I am with you

Left, Right or Ahead

Photo by Elias Tigiser on Pexels.com
I stand still
Looking ahead I see
A crossroad waiting for me

I move forward
Just to the deciding place
Where a question I must face

I look left and right
Unsure of my life
Hiding from the strife

I strain to see ahead
Is it good or is it bad
Can’t be worse than what I’ve had

I close my eyes
Focus on my inner desire
Look for solutions taking me higher

I take a deep breath
Turning to the road to the right
The future may now be in sight

I take the first step
Down the road to my potential
My dreams and my happiness essential

Again and again

The same thoughts

Run around in my mind

Asking myself

What about tomorrow

Will I be happy again

All the same worries

Like a broken record

Or MP3 on repeat

What about tomorrow

Will I be happy again

Repetitive thoughts

Like a hamster on a wheel

Run back around again

What about tomorrow

Will I be happy again

Just when I think

They may have quieted down

The echoes start again

What about tomorrow

Will I be happy again

That’s The Spot

There is a spot on my heart

I can feel it throb sharply

Whenever you’re near

And I don’t know if I can take it

When you smile and look at me

With those wonderful blue eyes

That spot it does remind me

Of pain from the past

But holds hope for the future too

I guess for now I will endure

And wonder what is going on

Behind your blue eyes

My Own

I wander through the house

The last remnants of you now gone

It is now mine, really mine

I know it always has been

But I felt you assumed ownership

From the first moment you came here

Now I can breathe the fresh air of hope

And change the things you did

That never were run by me

The pieces of my past

You so casually threw to the side

I now begin to find a balance

Between who I was and who I’ve become

Bringing this home to life

With fond memories and a bright future
