Love Receipt

When you buy something you get a receipt, just in case it doesn’t work, it is the wrong size or you find you already have one.  Why can’t love be returnable?

**

It’s new

It’s shiny

It’s comfortable

It makes us feel alive

**

It gets old

It wears

It gets uncomfortable

It makes us reminisce the past

**

It sours

It becomes work

It drags us down

It makes us wish for freedom

**

Excuse me sir

May I see the manager

I have my receipt

I want my heart back

**

I have failed in the past and this new, shiny love is opening different avenues for me, but will it last?  Will it fizzle and sputter.  I put a lot of one-sided work in on past misfortunes that collapsed.  I hope I have a little fight left in me, as this feels worth it.  Only time will tell.

Come On In

Step forward to the entrance

Open up the door and take a peek

You’re coming into my heart

And I couldn’t be happier

Look out for some baggage

Stacked up here and there

And boxes of memories

Some boarded up

Others wide open

But there is a comfort here for you

That I hope you find pleasant

And it is an easy going place

No pressure to stay but still

I hope you will share it with me

For many years to come

A to Z Challenge – G is for Gandhi

“In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”

Mahatma Gandhi

You have to feel… empty prayers (or hopes) with no heart or feelings behind them don’t show a dedication or need. But if you really fill your heart with the feelings of what you need or want it means so much more. I think in some ways it is like the power of positive thinking… if you don’t put your heart into it, it likely will not happen. Everyone can be more heartfelt about life… it doesn’t cost a thing and could gain you so much.

Butterflies Never Leave

Photo by Suzy Hazelwood on Pexels.com

Don’t clutter up my mind

With the facts of yesterday

I want to move forward

With what my heart is telling me

You were good for me

And I think I was good for you

Why can’t we be us again

Forget the reasons it was over

Embrace the love that never left

My heart still wants you

It may be full of butterflies

But they only want to fly to you

Flirting drew us to each other

Passion fueled us for a time

A deep friendship bonded us

It was a perfect forever

You and me

But things fell apart

You slowly disappeared

Until I was completely lost

Just tell me if you are done

Stop dragging my heart around

Fandango’s Friday Flashback – January 31

Another week has come and gone, so it is once again time for Fandango’s Friday Flashback (FFF).  This week I reach back two years to a post I did for the word prompt cavity.  I hope you enjoy it!

Hollow

I have a hole in my chest
A place where a heart once belonged
It is now an hollow cavity
An echo of love lost
For you took my heart with you
When you walked out the door
And I have felt nothing but emptiness
Since you left me alone

Silver-Tongued Devil

You always told me exactly what you wanted

You never were subtle with your needs

You told me once you wanted me

And I fell like a rock off a skyscraper

I did everything I could do for you

And some things I shouldn’t have

Then suddenly you turned around

You said you didn’t want me anymore

You said you shouldn’t have said those things

But it was too late

My heart was ripped to shreds

Too damaged for anyone else to love

And as broken and battered as it was

It still beats only for you

Fandango’s Friday Flashback – January 24

This week for Fandango’s Friday Flashback (FFF) I dug back in my posts to January 24th in 2018.  This was the poem, originally published here, that I wrote for the word prompt candid.

Confession

“I have to be candid,
I have to speak the truth,
I love you”
She said to him.
He only said “No.”
Her heart stopped
For a second
That seemed like an eternity.
“You haven’t known me
Long enough to love me”
He added.
She swallowed back tears
“I know what is in my heart”
She told him with renewed confidence,
And he breathed
A heavy sigh.
“You don’t have to say anything,
Just know that I love you”
She said in almost a whisper
And kissed him softly.
He reached out to hold her
And they slept in
Each others arms.
