Homecoming Trio

“Mom, can’t I please stay out past midnight?  It is homecoming night.  The game will probably be done about ten, then that doesn’t give us much time to celebrate.”

“Marla, maybe that is my point, you don’t need two hours to celebrate at 17.  I told you this year your exception would be prom night when you could stay out late.  You can’t have both.”

“But Monica and Shelly are staying out until 2.”

“I am not Monica or Shelly’s mom.  I am yours and you will be home at 12 or no exception to the rule on prom night.”

Stella

It had been too early.  She came into the world so small.  She was only 5 pounds and 4 ounces.  She was about 5 weeks ahead of schedule.  Her mom had been released from the hospital, but it had been Stella’s first home for 3 weeks while she grew a little bit more.

Today was the day though.  She would be coming home, and mom and dad couldn’t be happier.  The nursery was ready and waiting.  They had to finish it in the weeks after she was born while waiting for this moment.  Dad was putting the car seat into the car while Mom was gathering the first clothes Stella would be wearing.

They arrived at the hospital and were so happy to be able to hold their daughter.  The doctor and nurses talked to them about all they should know and filled out the discharge paperwork.  This was it, finally, Mom, Dad and Stella all walked out of the hospital.  A happy family on homecoming day!
