A Moment of Deception

We all hide

We take out a mask

And put forth

What the world expects

We often want to vanish

Escape from what we know

To a different life

We can put on a costume

And forget what ails us

But the mask and the costume

Must eventually come off

It is ok to flee for a moment

Take a break

Just don’t expect it to last

Reality will follow us

No matter how good the disguise

Remember the illusion is only temporary

I Should Have Ducked

The colors swirl before my eyes

A majesty I couldn’t have fantasized

A visual feast that boggles the mind

It is just an illusion but it is gorgeous

And as I begin to pass out

The vision is burned into my head

Dizzy and disoriented my brain did create

Some beauty after an unlucky fate

Master Magician

don’t lie to me
this was just an illusion
you seeming to care
when you had no intention to
you came in and stole my heart
apparently to be by my side
but that was just for show
one minute you’re there
then the next you have
vanished

Behind The Masks

They give the illusion

Of a happy couple

But hidden deep

Is a secret

The masks they wear

Make things look perfect

But the truth is

Something darker

An addiction to the bottle

And the need to hide it

He is a slave to alcohol

And she tries to keep it hidden

He drinks to drowned his worries

She worries about his health

He misses so much of life

She is missing peace and calm

Together they play their roles

In this tragedy of life

He the alcoholic

She the co-dependant

Will they ever find happiness

Will life ever be normal

He must fight for his own life

She must focus on herself for a change

Life with alcoholism is an illustion

Seeing only what you are allowed to

He the “life of the party”

She the “happy housewife”
