REO Speedwagon, Ray Charles, Rupaul, Rascal Flatts… R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Radar Love, Raspberry Beret, Rebel Yell… Rhythm, radio, recorder, roadies… really want to relax with one of these.
I earlier mentioned my love of musicals during the letter F… this is one of my all-time favorites, Rent! The music is good, the story is heartbreaking but good. I have seen the movie and a touring stage production. Both have their own merits and are better in their own way. Just don’t ask me to pick a favorite.
By far my favorite part is when they go into the diner and sing “La Vie Boheme.” A close second is the introduction to Angel – “Today for You.” And you can’t dismiss the opening and closing song of the musical, “Seasons of Love.” It is all good, music, dance, acting… now I must get out my DVD!
One of my favorite months is upon us. I love the wonder of the holidays. How it can light up young and old alike. The weather is (usually) starting to change the world white and frosty. And the promise of a new year is just around the corner. This is the final month of my attempt to find the things that make me happy and grateful every day for a year… I have mixed emotions that it will be ending. Please join me these last few days and post your happiness and gratitude in the comments or on your own blog. There is always some good in the day no matter how small.
And then there were 10…. only ten days left in my challenge. This year has gone by pretty fast and I am sure these last few days will be somewhat of a blur.
Today was a surprising day. My daughter got off work early this afternoon and treated me to a movie. We went and saw Hugh Jackman’s latest film “The Greatest Showman.” It always makes me happy to see a good film and I love musicals. It was my first time in our upgraded theater with the new assigned seating in the fancy new electric recliners. It was a nice afternoon.
Then tonight my daughter came over to do laundry and help me finish the rest of the candies. I did the rest of the potato chips dipped in chocolate… so yummy. I was grateful for the help and the company.
Now I am headed back to sleep for a while… it was late when my daughter headed home. Remember to find your happiness and feel your gratitude. Have a wonderful night/day!
Seven months are gone now and surprisingly I am still plugging along with this challenge to post about my happiness and gratitude every day this year. August brings the state fair here in Iowa and lots of heat and humidity. It is the time to see the back to school shopping start with kids dreading it and parents loving it. As I continue my challenge I hope you will take a minute to reflect on your day too. You can even share your happiness and gratitude here in the comments or on your own blog. There is good in every day!
Why are people so disappointing? Friends suddenly don’t talk to you for weeks, months, years with no reason. A member of my ex-husbands family has gotten his nose so far in the air it is not funny. They are in Texas and I sent a message to show my concern and worry about their welfare during the hurricane … although he posted about other things he didn’t respond to my message. It wouldn’t bother me so much if he hadn’t said I would “always be family” after the divorce. This is not the first time he has ignored what I had to say. I just don’t see how people can stop caring about someone… I know I can’t. Maybe I am the one that is out of the ordinary?
So aside from disappointment again, it has been an ok day. My boyfriend and I did some shopping for my Dad who can’t get out and do much shopping anymore. We got some birthday gifts for my sister. I am grateful that I got that accomplished as her birthday is on Tuesday. It was pretty slow going as I hurt from yesterdays walking and prolonged standing at the festival. But it is done so I don’t have to worry about it now.
I am in the midst of my happy moment. I found a movie musical on TV tonight I haven’t seen in quite some time – The Wiz. I love musicals and there are so few new ones. So I am reliving some of my youth tonight watching Diana Ross and Michael Jackson sing and dance and Ease On Down The Road.
Another day is done and time to wait for my medicine to help me fall asleep. I hope you find your happiness and feel your gratitude. Have a nice night/day.
This is February and I am well on my way to attaining a goal I set for myself. I am trying to post every day with happiness and gratitude that I have encountered that day. There is always something no matter how small it may seem that we can be grateful for and even just a shared smile can make you happy if only for a moment. Please try to find those moments for yourself too… if you’re up to it I would love if you would share them too in the comments or your own blog. Being aware can really turn a day around!
Tonight was Hollywood’s finest… well kind of. My daughter came over after work and we watched the Oscar Awards that I had recorded for us. We oohed and ahhed over the fashions and winners. Neither one of us was too thrilled with Jimmy Kimmel’s hosting duties, but overall we thought the writers fell a little flat this year as a whole. However the surprise ending was indeed unexpected. I wont spoil it for those of you maybe not have had a chance to see it yet.
The main thing for me was spending time with my daughter. And without spoiling anything individual I will say I was happy that La La Land did take something home tonight. I have not seen the movie (yet) but if a musical won something that may mean the studios will take a chance with another musical. …I love musicals! I was grateful for the time with my daughter. Another awards show done for the year. I wonder how long they will be talking about this one with its big mistake?
It was a drizzly rain that lasted all day yesterday. Temperatures in the low fifties so the rain felt like a chill to the bone. Rain always makes me ache, cold always makes me ache, but the weather was not going to put a damper on the day.
I met my daughter for a nice breakfast at Perkins. Fueled up on french toast and coffee we set out for our destination in the rain. We made it into the “big city” and didn’t get lost once (thank you Google GPS). We had arrived at the civic center.
It was the day the two of us had been waiting for, for a long time. We were going to see the live stage production of the musical Rent. It was a Saturday matinée and I was sad to see there were empty seats left for this 20th anniversary show. But it was AMAZING!
The subtle differences between the movie and the stage production were obvious but not distracting at all. I loved the way they staged the multi character scenes. The voices were magnificent. All the actors did a fantastic job!
Now my daughter and I have seen four different Broadway show here on the small stages in Iowa. We have seen Cats, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast and now Rent. I can’t wait for the next show to add to our list… would love for it to be The Color Purple when it starts to tour!
Today I have memories and a new tour shirt to wear … yesterday was definitely a day of happiness in spite of the weather! Now off to today’s moments of happiness.
Music is a big part of my life. There are not many days that I don’t listen to some kind of music at some point in time. So it is no surprise then that I love movie musicals or movies with great soundtracks.
Today after my boyfriend and I watched a show we had recorded on our DVR I checked the channel guide to see what was on and I caught a movie just starting that I have watched many times and know the soundtrack well. It is the movie The Rose with Bette Midler. I love the music and although sad it is a very good movie. Bette puts so much emotion in all her songs you really feel them. It really draws me into the movie every time.
So now I am thinking tomorrow it is time to bring out some DVDs to watch – Chicago, Rent, The Big Chill…just to name a few. Even the soundtrack to Star Wars and the Harry Potter films are really great to listen to. What are some of your favorite movie musical/soundtracks?
