At The Cabin

The forest trees stretched on forever
The water gently lapped at their roots
A deer timidly steps forward to drink
And I sit across the river in awe
This quiet beauty is mesmerizing
The birds softly sing in the trees nearby
I am taken to a place of tranquility
Watching nature on a lazy summer day

The Sad Flower

Robert always rushed.  He would rush here, and rush there.  He never would stand still.

Then one day he saw a sad flower and he stopped to talk to her.  “Why are you so sad?” he asked the flower.

The sad flower sniffled and said, “Because no one takes time to notice me. They always rush by before I can smile for them. I only want to make their day more beautiful.”

Robert thought for a minute and said, “Maybe I could take you home with me and I can show my family how beautiful you are?”

The sad flower lowered her petals and sighed, “If you take me home then I will not be able to help more people see the beauty of nature.”

“What is nature?” Robert asked.

The sad flower told him, “Nature is all living things – the grass, trees, flowers, and plants. It can be the look of the sunshine or the feeling of rain. It is all around but many people never stop to look at it. It can be very beautiful if they would just take the time to look.”

Robert smiled and said, “I like nature. I like to play in the rain and jump in puddles. Is that nature?”

The sad flower began to straighten up just a bit and said, “That is a part of nature. I am so happy to hear you like nature.”

Robert said, “I am going to go home now and tell my family about how beautiful nature is.”

The sad flower stood tall and proud, smiling she said, “Thanks for taking the time to see the beauty of nature. I feel better thanks to you.”

“Goodbye flower. I will see you tomorrow. You are beautiful.” Robert said and turned to go home.

Three Day Quote Challenge – Day 2

I have been nominated by Fandango over at This, That, And The Other for the three-day quote challenge. Thanks Fandango for this opportunity to share some of my favorite words!

First the rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Post a quote for three consecutive days – one quote per day.
3. Nominate three bloggers each day and let them know about it.

As I stated on Day 1 I thought more of people than quotes when I came to this challenge.  Looking at it that way also gives me more of a chance to explore the things my favorite people had to say.  Today I focus on my love of photography and nature.  One of my favorite photographers is Ansel Adams.  He can display things from nature that are truly breathtaking.  A search of his quotes led me to this one…

“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.” – Ansel Adams

I have felt a deeper love of the photographs that I took because of feelings along with beauty, than just something pretty… does that make sense?  I strive for a great photograph rather than just a snapshot.

I now must do my least favorite thing and nominate three more people for this.  Remember this  is just for fun and not an obligation to do so, but I hope you share the words you love.  Today I nominate:

Happy and Grateful – Day 285

The month of October is upon us.  Fall is in full swing with the leaves gathering on the lawn… maybe a pile or two to run through even.  The evenings are getting dark earlier as the days grow shorter.  And a few of us look forward to a good scare with Halloween coming this month.  Everyday has at least some small portion of good in it.  I am looking for that good with this challenge to find my happiness and gratitude every day.  Join in with the challenge by commenting or writing your own blog… let’s find some goodness today.

A nice and quiet day today.  I took a walk in the cool air to my weekly doctor’s appointment and was happy to be out in the autumn air for a little while.  It is a path behind the parking lot to the back side of the clinic so not much nature to see, but just breathing in the fresh air was good.

Today’s gratitude comes in a simple form.  Nothing more than a simple text from a friend to ask how I was doing, but it gave me a moment of worth and made me feel remembered.

My computer is due to perform updates so I have to get this posted.  Remember to find your happiness and feel your gratitude.  Have a good night/day!

Happy and Grateful – Day 278

Today was a double doctor day.  The heart doctor for my Dad and my weekly therapist for me.  The appointments were spread out enough that there was no mad dash to get to one from the other at least.  But it made it another day of being out and about with little down time.  So tonight when I had nothing to do for a change it was so nice to be able to catch up a little on some email and posts.  I was grateful for that free time.

It was a pretty grey day with off and on rain most of the day.  But it was nice and cool so I could have the windows open after I got back home.  It always makes me happy to experience a little bit of nature, no matter how small a part that may be.  The birds singing and tonight the crickets chirping is good for me.

I should call it a night and post this.  I am starting to feel the effects of my nighttime meds.  I need to close up the apartment for the night and drift off to dream land (oh, to sleep well enough that I do actually dream would be a blessing).  Remember to find your happiness and feel your gratitude.  Have a good night/day!

Monochrome Monday – Around The River Bend

This week I almost posted a plain black picture.  I am devastated by the horrific events of last night in Las Vegas.  Going from one thoughtless act of violence to another has got to end.  Some way, some how it has to stop.  The one thing that can calm me is nature and its beauty.  So I decided to go ahead and post a picture of something that might give someone a second of peace.  That might show the available beauty in the world.  My thoughts and prayers go to all those affected by this recent tragedy.  Try to see the beauty in life… it does still exist.

Happy and Grateful – Day 271

The kids are all in school, there is a growing crisp in the air.  Football games and shorter days fill the weeks.  It is September.  I have accomplished another month of acknowledging my happiness and gratitude every day.  Join me as I continue my goal of one year on this journey.  Please join in with your happiness and gratitude in the comments or your own blog post.  No matter how bad the day is there is always something worthwhile in the day.

Sorry for the delay in this post.  With all the anxiety I had concerning my mammogram I was hit with some strong fatigue and went out halfway through my daily prompt post.  The good news though is that my mammogram was clear… 14 years cancer free now and good for one more year!  I am beyond grateful for another clear report.

It was a stressful day, but it was also a beautiful fall day.  Windows open, birds singing and a nice cool breeze blowing made the day more manageable.  I was happy to have a little bit of nature to help soothe my anxiety a little.

Now let’s hope I can get tonight’s post done on time.  Remember to find your happiness and feel your gratitude.  Have a great day/night!
