Break The Habit

“Where did Alan go?” Betty asked as she came into the office.  John looked up from his computer screen and said, “I hadn’t even noticed he was gone.”

Betty rolled her eyes and said, “He is probably on one of his smoke breaks.  His penchant for smoking is going to catch up to him one of these days.”

Just then Alan came up behind Betty and said. “I’m back.”

Betty turned slowly and said, “Oh man, I could smell you were back.  You reek of cigarettes.”

Alan turned a little pink in the cheeks and said, “That is harsh.”

“No, just truthful.  The boss wants to see you as soon as possible.  Which means you should have been there 10 minutes ago.” Betty informed Alan and then left the office.

John looked up at Alan and said,” Former smokers are always so nasty about smoking once they have quit.  Don’t mind her.”

“I just ignore it, like water off a duck’s back.” Alan turned and went to see the boss.

Anniversary Roses

She loved all flowers

But she had a penchant for roses

They were the one flower

He gave her every year

One rose for each year together

Until fate put her

In the wrong place

At the wrong time

And a drunk driver stopped her

He still gives her roses every year

But now he puts them on her headstone
