sunshine-blogger

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given by bloggers to bloggers who inspire positiveness and creativity in the blogging community.

The rules are:

  • Thank blogger(s) who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate up to 11 new blogs to receive the award, write them 11 new questions and notify them about the nomination.

Sadje’s questions:

  1. What is your favorite time of the day?                                                                                      Probably midafternoon.  I am fully away and have worked out the kinks of the day, I have a little time for myself before my boyfriend is off work and I feel the loneliness that haunts my night.
  2. How strict are you with yourself, regarding health?                                                               I wish stronger… I have a sweet tooth and give in to it far too often.  Exercise has been put on hold during the shut down as I did aqua therapy and the pools are closed.  I would like to lose some weight and be more aware of my food.  I have an app I am starting to use and with any luck my health will improve.
  3. Do you follow back a blogger who follows your blog?                                                             I did when I first started, but learned fast there is only so much time to read.  I will however be more apt to follow back if they are engaged with my blog with commenting.
  4. How do you deal with criticism in real life?                                                                              Better than I used to.  With both anxiety and depression I was at a point where everything was “my fault” even if I had nothing to do with it; that is the nature of the disease.
  5. How do you deal with criticism in the blogging world?                                                           I would love to hear any constructive criticism about my writing… that is how we improve.  Just don’t be a jerk about saying it.
  6. Any ideas about how we can turn the current situation to our advantage?                       Continue to connect more with our immediate circle.  Stay home and play a game together, binge watch something together… don’t put too many priorities in your life ahead of your family time.  Also staying home more would reduce gas consumption and pollution.
  7. Are you a dessert person?                                                                                                          Cake, pie, cookies, brownies, ice cream… yeah I love it all!  And unfortunately it shows!
  8. What colors do you like to wear?                                                                                               Red, purple, black, grey and some green.
  9. What color decor you like around you, in your home?                                                           Blue, green and purple … at least that is the plan.  Right now we are still in process of the kitchen remodel which will be white and blue.
  10. What is your favorite place to write from?                                                                               The comfort of my own recliner.  Preferably with a little music playing.  But I do always have paper and pen with me for when inspiration strikes me.
  11. Do you like getting Blogging awards?                                                                                        Who doesn’t like being recognized.  I am really bad though about narrowing down my followers list to pick the limited number I award, so I open it up to all.  I don’t want to leave anyone out… I wouldn’t be following them if I didn’t like their work.  And answering the questions is fun.

My Questions:

  1. Ok, you write a blog, so do you also play word games of any kind?
  2. Do you have any other type of creative outlet besides writing?  Art, sewing, photography, jewelry making, etc.?
  3. Do you listen to anything while you write or does it need to be quiet?
  4. Are you an avid book reader?
  5. Name a country you would love to visit if the world wasn’t shut down because of the virus.
  6. Have you ever written a poem about someone and gave it to them?
  7. Is there an author (living or dead) that you would love to sit down and talk to for an hour?
  8. Have you ever met a fellow blogger or interacted off WordPress?
  9. Cake or pie?
  10. Coffee or tea?
  11. What is the strangest movie you have ever seen?

This is where I should nominate 11 bloggers… instead I nominate all my followers cause you are all pretty neato and this will be fun to do!  😁

Thanks to Sadje again and to all who join in!  Have a great day! 🌺

The Decade Tag – 2010 to 2020

I was tagged by Sadje at Keep It Alive for the Decade Tag.

The Decade Tag was created by Jesusluvsall.

Play along guidelines

Please share a link with the creator of the tag – jesusluvsall.wordpress.com.

Share some of your highlights over the past decade, and if you want a few low points

Tag whoever you wish to.

Ask them some questions.

Use any picture appropriate for such a tag.

The last decade for me…

  • I finally had my depression diagnosis and began to get help to cope with it.  Starting to go to my therapist is the best thing I ever did.
  • I met someone who became my best friend and still is to this day.
  • I started my blog.
  • I met my boyfriend of 7 years now.
  • I “adopted” a three legged cat who became my shadow and we rescued a “runt of the liter” from a farm to become our spoiled princess cat.
  • My daughter graduated, got a job and moved into her own place.  I think this is both a highlight (I’m so proud of her) and a low point (empty nest syndrome)
  • I moved into my first apartment at 43 when I left my alcoholic husband.
  • I got my diagnosis of fibromyalgia and began to get treatments to help somewhat.
  • My daughter became engaged.
  • I moved into the house that I grew up in that was left to me and my sister.
  • My daughter became store manager at the coffee shop she works at.
  • I made it to 17 years survival from breast cancer.
  • But the last ten years held a lot of loss… the death of my mom, my three legged cat, and my father.  I also divorced after 20 years of marriage

Questions …

  1. How are you planning to spend the next decade in improving your health? I am trying to lose some weight by eating smaller portions and more fruits and vegetables.  There is not many exercises I can do that won’t flare my fibro but I have started water therapy.
  2. Have you noticed your tastes in music, literature and clothing change drastically over the last 10 years?  Not really.  I still enjoy all genres of music.  I don’t read as much as I used to now with short term memory problems.  And I have become much more comfortable with what I wear – comfort over looks.
  3. How would you rate your last decade in terms of achieving life goals?  There were many major changes for me this last decade but life goals… probably the discipline I get from daily blogging.  I have worked a lot on my writing and hope I entertain some of you a little.
  4. Do you think our planet will be doing well in the next decade?  I can’t see it going any direction other than worse.  We MUST get leaders who are concerned with the planet’s health and welfare or there will be no way to sustain human life any longer down the road.  We all can do our part by electing officials that care,  We can reduce, reuse and recycle.

This is where I am supposed to tag people to do this… but I hate to leave anyone out.  So, you are all encouraged to answer these same questions and let us know how your decade went.  Thanks again Sadje!

New Year’s Tag

About a million years ago… ok, more like two weeks, I was tagged by Sadje for this New Years Tag.  I am slow but I finally got around to answering it.  Let’s start with the rules…

  1. Share a link back to the person who tagged you – Sadje
  2. Share a link to the person who created the tag – jesusluvsall
  3. Share a favorite New Year’s memory.
  4. Answer the questions of the person who tagged you.
  5. Tag whoever you want.
  6. Use any picture that you like for New Year’s.

One of my favorite New Year’s memory is when we traveled to see my family in Omaha over the holidays one year.  My uncle knew of a bar having a New Year’s bash and thought it would be fun if we all went.  So it was me and my sister, Mom and Dad, my Aunt and Uncle and my other Uncle… we all got there and were given teardrop stickers to put on our cheeks.  The band playing was called Cry Baby, so that explained the stickers.  I remember dancing and laughing and seeing everyone else so happy.  It wasn’t long after that when my Mom got sick and we never had another New Year’s like that again.  And I was pretty young and totally crushing on the guitar player, although I don’t remember his name.  Forever known as the Cry Baby New Year.

Now the questions….

1.If you could celebrate New Year’s anywhere, where would it be.

I would really like to have a New Years party at home with family and games until midnight.

2.What is your favorite snack food for New Year’s?

Can’t go wrong with the classic chips and dip… but I also love a good veggie tray with dip.

3.Have you ever kept a New Year’s resolution? If so, what was it?

Can’t say that I have ever kept one, so I stopped making them years ago.

4.What do you want to do with your blog next year?

Pretty much the same I have been doing… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

5.Do you prefer a big party or a small gathering to celebrate?

A small gathering for sure.  If they can’t all sit down in my living room at the same time, it is too big a group.  We can comfortably seat 7 max.

And this is when I am supposed to tag others, but it is so late in getting this done I will just allow anyone who wants to share to feel free to do so.

Oh, and HAPPY New Year!

Sunshine Blogger Award

About a million years ago Sadje over at Keep It Alive nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award.  With a new year upon us I am trying to catch up and tie up the loose ends of 2019.  So without further ado….

About Sunshine Blogger Award:
It is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

The rules are simple:

  1. Nominate 11 people and notify them via comment Let anyone who wants to play along
  2. Ask them 11 new questions
  3. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  4. Display the award logo on your blog post
  5. Answer the 11 questions asked

Sadje’s Questions:

Why did you start blogging?

It was a way to release some of the emotions that were eating away at me with my depression and anxiety… it has grown into something much more and I would be lost without it.

Do your friends and family support you in blogging?

They know I have a blog but no one really asks about it or has seen it as it is an anonymous blog.

What would be your dream job?

Being unable to work just about any job would be welcomed if I was able.  But I have always dreamed of being a song writer.

What are your ambitions for the coming year?

To lose some weight and over all eat healthier.  To continue to write daily (time willing) and to do all I can to live a giving, caring kind life.

How do you think the world is going to cope with the challenges we are facing?

Unless we elect a new leader this year, poorly.  We need someone who understands climate change and compassion for all people.

What would be your ideal holiday vacation?

One of two places…. to see mountains or the ocean.

What is the quality you admire in yourself?

I both admire and at times despise my ability to love deeply.

What is the quality you admire in others?

Compassion.

What is your pet peeve?

When I worked retail it was people who didn’t push their carts all the way into the cart rack.  Now it is probably people who talk loudly on their phones in public.

Are you a book reader? If so how many books do you read in a month?

I used to be an avid book reader.  With the fibromyalgia I have some short term memory issues (fibro fog) and often find it hard to follow a book.  I do still try to read almost daily even if it is rereading what I just read the night before.  I probably get through a book in a month or two at this rate.

What aspect of your personality you would like to change?

My inability to let go or stop caring for someone even when they hurt me terribly.

My questions:

  1. What is your favorite game to play?
  2. Who do you most admire?
  3. Have you ever had to sit in a jury?
  4. If you could get away with a crime, what would you do?
  5. Are you a night owl or an early bird?
  6. Do you have any tattoos?
  7. If you could invite anyone famous over for lunch, who would it be?
  8. What is one place you would like to visit?
  9. CDs, MP3, or vinyl?
  10. You never leave home without what?
  11. Roller coaster, ferris wheel or merry-go-round?

Now is the time to nominate but I hate to leave anyone out so consider yourselves all nominated!

And I need to thank Sadje for nominating me, she is an awesome blogger!

Real Neat Award

Sadje at Keep It Alive has nominated me for the new Real Neat Award.  Thanks so much Sadje, sorry it took so long for me to do it.

Let’s jump right in with the rules:

  • Display the award logo
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog
  • Answer the questions from the blog who nominated you
  • Nominate seven to ten bloggers
  • Ask them seven questions

Here are Sadje’s questions.

Where does blogging fit in your daily life?  I blog off and on throughout the day as I find time, but most often I do my writing late at night when it is quiet.

Have you ever tried to do:

a) Paragliding No, I have a big fear of falling and there are just little straps keeping me from doing so… no thank you.

b) Horse riding I was on a horses back twice in my youth, but I wouldn’t call it riding.  Would still love to do a trail ride sometime.

c) Deep sea-diving I would be open to the idea… just far away from sharks!

Do you celebrate your birthday? We usually go out to eat and celebrate a little.  After beating breast cancer I look forward to every birthday I can get.

If you have free time at hand, would you go for a walk or a long drive? It would depend on my fibromyalgia.  If I am hurting a lot a walk may be too much.  On a good day though I would easily say a walk.

Your best friend calls in the middle of the night and asks you to meet them at a deserted place, will you go? BTW, this friend has known to pull pranks! Well if it is a BEST friend they would know I suffer from anxiety and then I would trust they would not pull a prank, so yes.

Now I am supposed to nominate people.  I am a rule breaker though, don’t want anyone left out.  So, you are ALL nominated.  Please join in and have some fun!  Now for my questions for all of you.

What is your favorite type of writing (poetry, flash fiction, stream of consciousness)?

If you use prompts, what kind do you like (picture, word, phrase, set number of words, etc)?

What is your favorite pet you have had or want to get?

Since this is close to Halloween, do you like scary movies?

Have you ever seen a movie based on a book that was better than the book?

Do you prefer coffee or tea?

If you listen to it, when do you start to play Christmas music?

But What Does It Really Cost You

Sadie over at Keep It Alive  shared a blog started by Dr Tanya of Salted Caramel.  It explores the question of what blogging cost you, not financially, but in other areas.  Sadie opened up the questions for everyone and I thought I would take a shot at them.

And here we go with the Cost Of Blogging Questions…

  1.  Does it infringe upon your leisure time? I guess you could say it has replaced some of my leisure time.  I used to read books at night, now I read blogs and write a little.
  2. Worse still, does it distract you from your work/studies? I don’t have a problem with this one since I don’t work due to disabilty.  But I suppose there are days I am reading blogs instead of doing the laundry or other chores.
  3. Is it taking a toll on your personal relationships? My relationship is not perfect but it is often when he is either asleep or at work when I blog.  So, no.
  4. Has your health suffered? I think it the opposite.  It helps to keep my mind a little sharper  maybe.  My health was pretty poor to begin with so there was not much blogging could have done to make it worse.
  5. Have you gained weight? This is hard to say.  I started blogging when the stress of my life and health had me in a corner.  Since then I have discovered I have fibromyalgia that does limit my exercise to a certain degree.  But I also was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and put on meds for all these conditions which could also be responsible for weight gain.  So I have gained weight but I am not sure it is directly related to blogging.
  6. Do you ever get writers block? YES!  I think it is worse with certain prompts that I write for… the words don’t always work well into poetry.  So, I have broadened my writing to include more fiction.  If all else fails I can do a good stream of consciousness blog.
  7. Have you ever suffered from blog-related stress or blogger burn out? I get stressed when I fall behind in my blogging and reading.  Take this post for example it was written the 16th, I probably saw it the 17th and wanted to answer it, but didn’t really have time until today the 21st.  That stresses me out.  Burn out… no.  I try to keep trying new things and have written poetry for YEARS so I know that will never stop.  I try to make new goals every year to try a little something different if I can.  But that is also why I like the daily prompts, because they are never the same.

So this concludes my views on the cost of blogging… how about for you?  Do you pay a heavy price for the blogosphere?  Please share your answers and feelings!

Weekly Song Challenge – Week 33

(or should that be week 33 1/3? 😊)

It is time for Laura’s Weekly Song Challenge.  The rules are easy to follow…

  • Copy rules and add to your own post
  • Ping back to original post
  • Post music videos for your answers to the musical questions.
  • Tag two people to join in on the fun

#1 Post a video of your favorite song by any of these artists:

Elton John, Styx, REO Speedwagon. Kansas, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond

I chose Kansas’ Dust In The Wind

#2  Post a hit song from the year you were born.

This is one of my favorites…

#3 Post a video of a song that was popular the year you graduated from high school.

There are a lot of good songs from ’85 but this was an “event” that I find hard to believe that can ever happen again.  How many artists can you name?

Now I am supposed to tag two people, but I want everyone to be involved so, I tag EVERYONE!  Please join in on the fun!

Random Facts About Me

This is a list of questions that migrated from Facebook to Word Press to share a little insight into who you are.   Not an award, no rules, just 23 questions.

Here we go…

  1. Do you make your bed every morning?

Yes, kind of… I sleep in my recliner so if I use a blanket I fold it up.

  1. What was your first car?

The first car I drove was a HUGE station wagon, whose size terrified me.  The first car I bought was a Chevy Chevette.

  1. What two grocery items do you never run out of?

Coffee and toilet paper

Image result for toilet paper

  1. At what age did you start doing your laundry?

Laundry was my sister’s  chore and had got to do the dishes.  So about the time she moved out I had to take if over… probably 16 years old.

  1. If you could, would you go back to high school?

The learning part of high school I didn’t mind.  The clichés and bullies were what would leave me saying no way.

  1. Can you parallel park in under three moves?

NOPE!  I hate parallel parking and avoid it like the plague.

  1. A job you had which people would be shocked to know you once had?

I was a paper carrier for the local Tribune for about 2 years.

Image result for paper girl

  1. Do you think aliens are real?

It would be arrogant of us to assume we are the only life force in the entire universe.  And there are too many unexplained things in the world.

  1. Can you drive a stick shift?

No, can’t do that either.  My ex-husband tried to teach me in his Triumph Spitfire and I could not get the hang of it.  My daughter can.

  1. Guilty TV pleasure?

There is really not a lot I watch no matter what.  Don’t record any shows on a regular basis.  I would say the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.  Like any soap though you can miss a week and still know what is going on as slow as some story lines run.

  1. Tattoos?

Technically three… two are just radiation field dots (to like up the radiation treatment machine to the right place every time they zapped me.  The other is one I got after my ten year survival from breast cancer.

Digimax A50 / KENOX Q2

  1. If the world ends do you want to be one of survivors?

If there CAN be survivors… I assume the question is more like would you live on a space station.  And it would be better than standing on a planet that no longer sustains life.

  1. Sweet or salty?

Definitely sweet, got a huge sweet tooth.

  1. Do you enjoy soaking in a nice hot bath?

Being of a certain size, I don’t fit well into a tub.  And if I am going to be in one I want everything (except my head obviously) under water.  Going on a little get away with a private whirlpool I plan to use for a good soaking.

  1. Do you consider yourself a strong person?

No, but my therapist keeps telling me I am.  Still don’t believe it.

  1. Something people do that drives you nuts?

Don’t put carts back… in the store, in the parking lot.  And when they get them close but don’t take the LITTLE effort it takes to push them in.  Really bugs me!

  1. Do you have any birthmarks?

A mole on my chin and a birthmark on my arm that is like a brown rectangle.

  1. Favorite childhood game?

Used to play tag a lot. Loved legos and Barbies.  In my teen years the Atari was all the rage.

  1. Do you talk to yourself?

Who do you think is asking me these questions?

  1. Do you like doing jigsaw puzzles?

Yes.  I used to do puzzles with my Dad… one of many things I really miss.

Image result for jigsaw puzzle pieces

  1. Tea or coffee?

Both, but I suppose coffee is number one.  Do love a good chai tea though.

  1. First thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?

A movie star/singer.

  1. Favorite game now?

Just one?  Right now I play a lot of Words With Friends, spend some time running a virtual bakery in Bakery Story and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp – all on my phone.  But love the card game Shanghai Rummy too.

Ok… now it is your turn.  Join in the fun a share a little about you.

Mystery Blogger Award

Sadje from keep it alive  has nominated me for the mystery blogger award.  THANKS Sadje! ❤ Sorry it took me so long to answer it!

This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.  It was created by OKOTO ENIGMA whose site is  here.

The Rules

Put the award logo/image on your blog

List the rules

Tell your readers 3 things about yourself

-You have to nominate 10 – 20 people

-Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog

The questions…

     1. What are your aspirations in life?

To love deeply, to appreciate the little things and to help others.

     2. If you had $5000, what charity would you donate it to?

It would either be the local food bank or Good Neighbor… when I was unemployed and practically out of money they helped me with food and bills.  That is something I want to pay back.

     3. What is your favorite kind of music to chill out to?

I would say soft rock or a little meditation music off of YouTube.

8 or 9 … the community is awesome!  The technical issues from time to time are a little annoying.

     5. Have you gained real friendships through blogging?

I would say so.  I think it is easy to do because as writers we share a lot of ourselves.

Three thing about me…

  1. I went on stage during a concert once.
  2. I want to go back to college or at least take some night classes – if I ever get the money to.
  3. I have been in 4 accidents driving… one was a no fault (icy roads) and the other were all the other drivers fault.

I am a rule breaker and will not nominate 10 to 20 people… instead anyone who wants to can answer my questions.

  1. Do you like your middle name?
  2. Have you ever been a witness to a crime?
  3. What is your favorite sport?
  4. Have you ever sang karaoke?
  5. If you could travel anywhere free of charge where would you go?

And now to share a “best” post… they are all special to me in some way but I will link to one I did many years ago.  It was the first blog where I included a poem.

So one and all join in on the fun, answer some questions and share a blog!  You have been nominated!

How Can I

How can I tell if you’re reliable?

Do you mean what you say?

How can I tell if you’re honest?

Is there truth in your words?

How can I tell if you’re genuine?

Do you speak from your heart?

How can I tell if you’re authentic?

… I don’t want to be hurt anymore.
