Darkness Ahead

The darkness comes

Slithering in like snakes

Surroundings take on new meaning

The trees turn deadly

As they reach out for you

Shadows chasing you home

The graveyard down the street

Is a birthplace of the macabre

Bodies scattered amongst the graves

Unsure of who is dead

And who is the undead

You fumble for your keys

Hoping to outdistance

The demons that haunt you

But the door creaks slowly open

Revealing a gruesome sight

And all you can do is scream

As the world turns black

Embrace The Dark

The only light in the room

Is the glow of one lone candle

Sitting on the dresser

It flickers and dances

Making shadows move on the wall

It should set a romantic mood

But where my mind is tonight

It is an ominous warning

There are demons in the shadows

Thoughts creep in of pain and abandonment

Memories of lost love and unfinished battles

Hopelessness and despair slowly take me over

And in one quick breath I extinguish the flame

More familiar with the darkness than the light

From Within

I sit in the dark

Watching the shadows grow

The slightest sound

Turns into encroaching terror

The cat jumps off the desk

And I know he senses the doom too

He is running to escape it

Leaving me in the swirling chaos

My breath sounds too loud

And my racing heartbeat echoes

The dim light of the streetlight

Shows the way for demons to follow

Leading them to my soul

To destroy me from within

In a surreal waking nightmare

Unable to escape their reach

They pull me into the shadows

Never to be the same

Stronger

As the sunlight fades

The shadows grow deeper

And my demons

Try to take over

Telling me I’m no good

No one cares

And I just bring pain

To those I love

I tell myself to beware

Those demons speak lies

Twist up my thoughts

And leave me broken

Tonight as the shadows grow

I must try to stay strong

Stronger than the darkness

That haunts my nights

Cling To Me

Inside there is a scared child

One who clings to dreams

Who is afraid of failure

And painfully lonely times

She clings to hopes of happiness

But cowers in fear of change

She has been pushed down for years

And tries to stay within the shadows

But now I choose to take her hand

And help her see her wishes achieved

She can cling to me in trust

For I know just what she needs
