A to Z Challenge – S is for Sitting Bull

“Behold, my friends, the Spring has come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love.

Sitting Bull

Spring is such a beautiful time of year with so many things growing and blooming. I love the thought of it being the “embrace of their love” from the earth and sun. Take a minute to see the new growth and be amazed by it’s beauty.

The letter O …

The time is almost here.  The calendar says it is Spring, now if we could just get the weather to cooperate.  We had light snow this week, but tomorrow it is supposed to return to the 60’s.  We have had little tastes of Spring here and there, then Winter seems to sneak back in.  This time I hope someone closes the door and locks it tight until late Fall.

Once the windows are open, I can hear the birds chirping and in about a month the lilacs will fill the air with their perfume.  It is time to think about heading outdoors again.  Taking a short walk (I think all I can handle is short) trying to find my health again.  See the first signs of the season – the neighbors tulips blooming, the daffodils on the corner, and the first dandelions popping up in the yards.

Once warmer days come there is the opportunity for morel mushrooms to pop up.  And more birds will fly back from the South.  The squirrels and rabbits will come out in force.  And the park by the river may even have a stray deer.

I can take my camera and capture moments of beauty I see in trees, flowers, the sky and more.  To spend time outdoors brings me a little closer to the wonders all around we are usually too busy to see.  Those moments I will be able to spend outdoors will bring me a peace I can find no other way.  My gratitude today goes to being outdoors.

Happy and Grateful – Day 170

June brings warmer weather and the start of summer.  Hopefully it brings many ideas from my muse too.  I continue to write for my challenge to find the things that make me happy and grateful each day this year.  Please feel free to join me in this challenge with comments about your happiness and gratitude or start your own blog.  There is always something good to find in each day.

Today was a picture perfect spring day.  I did get a small chance to go out and enjoy it a little bit with a walk to the grocery store with my boyfriend.  It was a short walk but still a little time in the outdoors was good for me.  It made me happy to breathe a little fresh air – regardless of my allergies.

Tonight was a night to put my feet up and rest my back and shoulders that have been hurting.  Coming up on a busy week and it was nice to be able to relax as much as I could today.  I was grateful for the quiet time just to watch some Banshee with my boyfriend.

I did sneak in a little “work” and have a load of clothes in the dryer right now.  Will take my time folding it to hopefully not aggravate my shoulders any more than they are.  Then it is time to sleep.  I hope everyone had a good day and you had at least one happy moment.

Happy and Grateful – Day 152

June brings warmer weather and the start of summer.  Hopefully it brings many ideas from my muse too.  I continue to write for my challenge to find the things that make me happy and grateful each day this year.  Please feel free to join me in this challenge with comments about your happiness and gratitude or start your own blog.  There is always something good to find in each day.

Today it got a little warmer, trying to prepare us for tomorrow’s heat and humidity,  It was nice weather to walk to my doctor’s appointment.  Good for having the windows open and hearing the birds once again.  A beautiful start to June!

I was grateful to take a little time for me tonight and make it to a Al-anon meeting.  It was good to see some familiar faces and be reminded of some of the principles of the program.  I am really seeing benefits again of working the program.

Tonight after work my daughter stopped to watch a couple of soaps off the DVR and do some laundry.  Seeing her always makes me happy.

At least tomorrow I don’t have to be up as early as I was today.  So I should only need 3 alarms not 4 LOL!  Have a good night (or day depending on where you are) everyone!

Happy and Grateful – Day 88

As March begins I continue with my goal to find happiness and gratitude every day.  There is at least some small thing that can bring a smile and give you a moment to be grateful for.  Please join me in looking for the good moments of the day … it would be great if you would share them in the comments or on your own blog.  Be aware of the little wonders of the day!

I wish I was young again… I would chant “Rain, rain, go away, come again another day…” and hold some hope that the words could maybe stop the rain.  It has been raining since sun up and is not slowing down anytime soon.  But even though it is not yet April I know that these showers will bring (May) flowers.  And that is what I am holding onto to get me through the cloudy rainy weather.  It could always be worse… it could be snowing!  YIKES!

I am happy the flowers are taking a nice deep drink and grateful it will not be long until I see some green followed by the colorful blooms of Spring.

“…It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring.  He went to bed and he bumped his head and he didn’t get up ’til morning…”  (What were we thinking as kids to chant such silly things? LOL)

Happy and Grateful – Day 31

I have undertaken a challenge this year.  I am trying to find the good in every day by writing about happiness and gratitude that I feel.  No matter how small there is always something to bring a smile or make you grateful, if just for a moment.  Follow along with me as I dig deep as necessary and find the peace of the day.  Join in if you are feeling happy and grateful too – in the comments or on your own blog.  Let’s find some fun!

One month done… it seems to me like it went by pretty fast.  Maybe it was because the weather was a little nicer for January than usual.  Don’t get me wrong, we had ice, snow and bitter cold some days but overall I think the month was warmer than usual.

The nice thing about January being over is that February is a short month and in March a few things may start to grow… I am ready for spring.  I know there are seeds in the ground waiting to sprout forth and bring us new life in the spring.  I am tired of bare trees and brown grass poking through the snow.  I like the color green.

I guess the one good thing is I have my pictures to prove to myself that there will be regrowth.  I can go through my spring and summer photos and find that renewed life.  I am happy I have a nice collection of pictures to remind me of spring.  I am grateful for all the posts I see here where people share their nature photos and give me a little more hope for spring and flowers to return.

…only 49 days until March 20th, the official return of spring!
