Test Time

Deanna was asleep on top of her desk when her mom came in to check on her.  Her mom gently touched her shoulder and whispered, “Honey, you need to go to bed and get some real sleep.”

Deanna stirred and slowly raised her head, “I can’t believe I fell asleep.  I really need to study for this test.”

“You will not do any good on it if you don’t get your rest though.  Get some sleep and maybe get up a half an hour early and revisit it with a refreshed mind in the morning.”

“You are right Mom; I just know it is going to be an essay test and my dates and facts will need to be there to have it work.”

“You are great with your writing; an essay test should be a breeze for you!  Now get some sleep sunshine.”

“I will, thanks Mom.”

Is That Really Me

I write when I am happy

I write when I am hurt

I pour out my feelings in words

To make the day complete

There are days though

When I feel someone else take over

And the words spew forth

Full of anger, pain and hate

I study the words and wonder

Thinking I couldn’t possibly feel like that

But there are the words

Written right in front of me

Today I hated myself

And tomorrow I fear the same

If I can’t slow down

This awful pain

A Friend Indeed

Your words become lost in my ears

It’s a soothing sound that drowns the pain

I focus on your eyes to read their sincerity

study your hands as they aid in your message

It all adds up to make me feel more at ease

It is not what you are saying as much as how

With emotion hidden behind the words

Implied love and support showing through

Your friendship means the world to me

I’d be lost without your encouragement
