“Is this Leigha I am speaking to? Great! Remember that form you filled out at the craft fair this weekend for the trip to Florida? Well, congratulations you won! Your name was drawn as a winner! … I just need a $498 reservation fee…” No doubt he was trying to tout some condo or time-share house in Orlando and Daytona Beach. It was supposed to be a 7-day trip staying at resorts down south. Funny as soon as I told him I couldn’t afford the $498 fee, he said goodbye. I guess I should be glad I got a courtesy goodbye and not just a hang up. This was after I had gotten (for the second time in about a month) a call “from Verizon” that my account was suspended and I just needed to reconnect my account… just give us all your bank account info so we can rob you blind!
I wouldn’t normally answer my phone with unknown numbers, but a local radio station is part of a nationwide contest to win $1000 by texting a keyword. Thing is they call you back to get your info… so if I want to win, I have to answer. Hey, $1000 is a fair amount of money and would make an awesome Christmas this year. I know my odds of winning are low, but it is worth a shot. What do you do that is against all odds?
