Sunny Sunday – November 26

Today I decided to bring more light to the world.  Today I ask you to do the same thing.  Join me in posting something happy and upbeat, funny or serious but always sunny.  It can be poems, stories (real or fiction), pictures, quotes or music.  Let’s spread a little joy today.  Encourage each other with a little positivity.  If you want to spread that sunshine give me a link in the comments and we can light up the world together.  #SunnySunday

Looking at the blank screen this week and I am lost for a poem – started three different ones but they did not survive the edit.  Sunny Sunday is all about happiness and positivity and the words just are failing me. So my doctors recommended go to when I am struggling a little bit is a gratitude list and since Thursday was Thanksgiving here in the US I think gratitudes may be what is best – did you say what you were thankful for at dinner Thursday?  We always went around the table when my daughter was growing up to share what we were grateful for.

Please join me in sharing at least one thing you are thankful for. Here is my list of 5, from general to specific…

  1. Survival – shelter, food and clothing
  2. Love – daughter, boyfriend, family and friends
  3. Extras – good sales, a coffee from my favorite shop, and a “gift” for myself
  4. Progress – cleaning up the house, putting things in storage and my Christmas card idea being created
  5. Hope for joy – a get away planned, concerts on the horizon and a visit from a friend soon

What about you?  Share what you are thankful for in the comments or make your own Sunny Sunday gratitude list.  As November comes to a close I hope you wrap up the month with sunshine. 🌞

Royal Nonsense

I never frown

Wearing my crown

As I paint the town

In my new gown

That’s colored brown

**

But I do smile

As we drive that mile

Past the wood pile

As I read a file

About the notorious Kyle

**

This little ditty

Is not very witty

Maybe a bit gritty

Now please show some pity

For the little hungry kitty

Just emptying my head of rhymes on this cool Black Friday. I am at home away from the crowds only with one destination planned for the shopping madness today and it will be the grocery store… the things I am getting for gifts this year did not fall into any of the usual categories that fill the ads today. I hope all those in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday and stuffed not only the bird, but themselves too. (read an interesting “fact” – the average calorie consumption on this holiday would take 9 hours of treadmill running to burn off… yikes!)

Still behind on reading… going to stick with it though. Not a lot planned for the next few days so I hope to get within a few days of caught up. Depends how many silly rhymes I feel the urge to write – ha, ha, ha!

I hope you all had a good week. I have been BUSY. Seems like something everyday, but it is good for me (keeps me out of trouble). The following week seems pretty planned out already too, straight through until December really… but keeping busy is much better than being bored out of my mind, wouldn’t you agree?

Enough about that… obviously that puts me behind on my reading, I haven’t been posting much of anything, but I hope to change that soon. I am taking some down time to read a little and hope to write a thing or two soon. In the meantime I wrote this for my bit of sunshine. Hope you find some positive words here and spread a little sun yourself. HAPPY Sunday!

A Matter of Joy

A smile makes a difference

It can lift the gloom

Of an otherwise dark day

A laugh makes a difference

It can clear the silence

Of a deafeningly loud emptiness

A touch makes a difference

It can bring a closeness nearer

Of a lonely solitary life

Every bit of care and concern

Can bring hope into view

Of a troubled frightened existence

Take the moment to bring forward

A spark of sunshine into others’ days

No matter how small – it matters

🌞🌞🌞

Only

If only I could fly above the clouds

To take flight away from it all

Escape and soar on the winds

Clouds a playground of hide and seek

And birds my kin to travel with

The freedom of the open skies

An inviting path it seems

If only I could fly away

And leave my troubles behind me

Fandango’s Flashback Friday – Long Live Rock and Roll

It is time to look back in the archive files and find a post from this date in another year and reshare it for FFF. This week I am going back to the heart of the pandemic in 2020. And with a few tickets already purchased for the coming months I am happy this was all in my head!

Long Live Rock and Roll

Four kids surrounded their grandfather as he began to speak from behind his mask.  “Back when I was a kid we used to go to something called a concert.  The singer wouldn’t be on a screen somewhere, they would be on a stage in front of thousands of fans that were all packed tightly in the same building.   And nobody wore masks.”

The children seemed appalled and hands went up to their masks and the younger girl said, “But what about the epidemic?”

“This was back before all the deadly viruses had been exposed to the public.   We would yell and scream and sing along with the music.  There was sometimes even dancing going on.  The lights would flash bright colors and the sound would echo through the auditorium.  Each new song would whip the fans into a hysterical frenzy of more screaming and clapping and stomping their feet.  It was a rush like no other.”

“Grandpa,” the oldest boy said.  “Would that ever happen now?”

“No John, there are just too many deadly diseases being spread around.  It all started with Covid-19 and we have been masked and mostly isolated ever since.”

In school I was often tardy… even had detention for it a couple of times.  So being late is nothing new to me, but I was flabbergasted when it hit me tonight at 9:30pm that I did not do my noon Sunny Sunday post.  It just completely went out of my head.  You see my boyfriend is visiting and we have had projects on our minds… today we spent the day loading up a storage unit.  So I am SO SORRY to have not had something ready today at noon!  Let’s talk sun though now and just forget it is more than nine hours late!

Morning Creations

I roll over and the sun hits my eyes

A new day shines in at me

Full of opportunities to make the day great

These days I feel more alive

Because of the love you brought to me

You complete my life

Like sunshine makes the morning

A future of happiness to create

Powerless

Incredible frustration and helplessness haunt me

I try to show support but what can I really do

Nothing

I am no one

A face from their past

Forgotten long ago

And as a curse on me

I still care

But it just doesn’t matter to them

Welcome Home

Photo by Craig Adderley on Pexels.com

I can’t sit still

I am so restless

My mind is a whirl

I have lots to do

And not much time

Before he is here

I know I will be glued

To the phone that day

Worried about the road

And problems that could happen

But the moment I see him

The stress will melt away

I will rush to his arms

And home will come to me

There is a lot going on… my boyfriend makes the trip here next week and it is all about getting ready.  Yesterday was bill paying day – always such a downer the way everything keeps going up.  And I found out a cousin is in the hospital.  BUT in spite of all the chaos around there is always sunshine.

So I thought about what I always go to when I struggle a little – music.  And since the Beatles released a new song this week, how about a little “Good Day Sunshine”…

A Past Chapter

The day would be significant

At least in her personal files

A momentous day to outshine all others

And beat them by a mile

He made her laugh

He made her smile

And maybe somehow

They would be happy for a while

That special day will forever stay

A part of her life story

Though fate had different plans for her

She still briefly felt the glory

And today she sits back to recall

And to quietly reflect

Still remembering the moment

Too beautiful to forget
